Well 78B-32 Summary and Data
Utah FORGE Wells Including 78B-32
(Coordinates: UTM Zone 12 N, NAD83)
Well 78B-32 was drilled between June 28th, 2021 and July 31st, 2021 to a depth of 9,500 feet. It is a vertical well that is used for seismic monitoring. It is located on Utah School and Institutional Trust Lands (SITLA) property. While drilling Silixa fiber optic seismic cable was run to 8,508 ft, but it is confirmed via continuity test that cable failed from 3,933 ft. to 8508 ft. The second objective was successfully completed: better understanding and use of MSE in real time and ongoing limiter redesign workflow were the major factors in the tremendous increase in ROP. This well took less than 45% of the on-bottom drilling time, required in the previous two wells, to reach 9,000 ft.

This project led to the production of a significant amount of data. These data can be downloaded below:
- Well 78B-32 Drilling data and Logs: This GDR page includes the daily drilling reports, Pason data, and Schlumberger logs acquired after drilling completion. Raw and processed data for a variety of well data metrics including temperature, porosity, density, and sonic data are also included.
- Well 78B-32 Core Photos: This GDR page includes a set of 42 core photos, in boxes, from Utah FORGE well 78B-32. The photos show the core, both wet and dry, from depths of 6700 - 6737 feet and 8502 - 8538 feet.
- Well 78B-32 Core Sample Petrographic Analysis Data and Report This dataset contains an overview of the petrographic, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy analyses of core samples from Utah FORGE Well 78B-32 along with the following: a. bulk X-ray diffraction (XRD) data from 12 depths (excel file); b. clay-sized XRD patterns from 12 depths (pdf file); c. an optical petrography report containing brief summaries of observations and annotated photomicrographs with captions from 19 thin sections made from 12 depths (pdf file); d. images of 18 oversized thin sections in plane-polarized and cross-polarized light from 11 depths (jpeg files); e. scanning electron microscope back scatter electron (SEM-EDS) photomosaic maps of 18 oversized thin sections from 11 depths (jpeg files); f. scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) analyses of a thin microbreccia that cuts the core from 6,728.5 to 6,729.5 ft.
