Hpa An

New Energy’s hydrokinetic platform on the Thanlyin River in Myanmar, now powers a school at Hpa An. The two 5 kW systems are anchored to the river bottom, and a power cable run to shore. The system includes battery storage and the ability to provide peak power of up to 20 kW. Initially intended as a 3 week demonstration, the effectiveness of the service convinced the village to operationalize the system and displace diesel power generation.
