FloWatt

This pilot project will see the installation of seven HydroQuest turbines at Alderney Race (Le Raz Blanchard) in Normandy, where some of the planet's most energetic tidal currents are found. The tidal array will be connected to the local electrical grid and is expected to produce up to 17.5 MW or an annual production equivalent to the electricity consumption of 20,000 inhabitants. The turbines will be placed close to the coast (3 km) but submerged at a depth of 30-35 m and will therefore not be visible from land.
