Crestwing Demonstration

Based on technology developed and tested in 2012 called Fladstrand, Crestwing (Waveenergyfyn in 2012) anchored their Tordenskiold attenuator wave energy converter (WEC) in December of 2018 east of Hirsholmene, located 6 km northeast of Frederikshavn in the Kattegat Strait. The device was deployed for five and a half months with the goal of testing both the power take off (PTO) and the three point anchoring system for survivability. The Tordenskiold was launched at half scale (1:2) with a 50 kilowatt generator onboard for energy conversion.

The device was deployed a second time in February of 2020 in the same location once again testing the survivability of its subsystems but also with a focus of gathering data for control optimization. The deployment was completed by November that same year.
