AOE Sooke Basin Test

AOE Accumulated Ocean Energy’s (AOE) conducted a single-day 1:8 scale prototype of its Ocean Buoy Array System (OBAS), a point absorber that stores energy harnessed from waves a compressed air, in Canada's Sooke Basin. A test buoy was deployed into a calm ocean and exposed to mechanically generated waves which activated the air compression mechanism of the pneumatic point absorber. Gauges on the dock launching area measured pressure reaching almost 10 psi after only a couple small waves. While there is currently no magnitude of scale equipment available for converting the compressed air to drive a turbine or pneumatic motor, AOE has patents pending for converting diesel engines to operate on compressed air and is developing compressed air turbines and pneumatic motors.
