Sustainable Marine Energy and Schottel Hydro PLAT-O
A taut moored buoyant mid-water column platform for highly energetic and exposed offshore sites. PLAT-O is SME’s second generation tidal platform, with the first prototype having been tested in both the south of England and at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in the Orkney islands. PLAT-O has been designed to maximize power capture whilst minimizing operational costs and O&M requirements and includes Schottel SIT turbines. When in operation PLAT-O is fully submerged in the high flow, low wave region of the water column.
