SAE Nereus II

The Nereus II is a bottom mounted tidal energy converter developed by SAE. The device builds upon the design of the SAE Aquanator, but with increased scale 400 kW. The Nereus II device consists of dual ducted axial rotors mounted on either end of a common structure and uses Aquafoils to capture momentum from the flow of water to drive a chain perpendicular to the flow. In turn, the chain drives a generator to convert the mechanical energy into electricity. This turbine system is suited for shallow water locations in rivers, man-made structures, or open ocean tidal streams.
