Havkraft H-WEC
At the heart of Havkraft’s wave energy solutions is the Havkraft Wave Energy Converter (H-WEC), a unique Oscillating Water Column (OWC). The H-WEC technology relies on a patented multi-chamber system, that operate as a collection of pistons, with the ability to capture a wide spectrum of wave frequencies. This ingenious design ensures that different wave heights and wave lengths are captured, resulting in a consistent and efficient energy output throughout the year. Each chamber has its own turbine generator that convert the kinetic and potential energy in the waves into electricity. The H-WEC's size and number of chambers depends on the solution and its intended operational location.
The rise and fall of the water columns results in the generation of pressure and vacuum, which in turn is captured by the turbine at the top. The turbines always rotate in the same direction, as the air flow is controlled at both the top and bottom of the turbine with guiding vanes. This design allows the system to be active whenever there is motion in the ocean.
