Modeling-Computer Simulations:
The technique of building a computer representation of a real world system to help understand and predict how changes and certain variables affect the system.

Introduction
  • "A computer simulation is the operation of a model built for a particular system. Computer simulations are built around numerical models. A computer simulation can be reconfigured and experimented with to analyze the varying outcomes of different factors that may affect the system. Simulation models of different degrees of complexity exist and a number of simulation studies for geothermal reservoirs have been conducted, many of these are proprietary, but a number of these simulations are public.'"`UNIQ--ref-00000000-QINU`"'" cannot be used as a page name in this wiki.

Use in Geothermal Exploration
  • "Computer simulations can be used to help learn about how certain physical processes may or may not affect other processes in complex geothermal systems. Best Practices
The given value was not understood.
A computer simulation is constructed based on the sound physical properties of fluid and heat transfer. The simulation model should employ sophisticated mathematical and numerical techniques to describe the physical properties of the geothermal reservoir accurately. The starting point of a successful and accurate computer simulation is a comprehensive reliable conceptual model based on the integration of a diverse set of observations from the area. In order for a simulation to most accurately represent a real world system is it highly important that the proper initial conditions be used. The most common problems with initial conditions are in two phase systems where large pressure and enthalpy effects can be highly uncertain. The best way to mitigate problems with the simulation due to uncertainties is to put in a considerable effort toward carefully gathering up to date accurate information on the state of the reservoir.[1]

For a more reliable simulation that will give a solution to a specific problem the best practice is to simplify the simulation as much as possible only using features that pertain to the problem that needs to be solved. Simulation models that attempt to be all-encompassing become very complicating thus increasing the risk of inaccurate predictions.[1]

    Potential Pitfalls
The given value was not understood.
Uncertainties in initial reservoir conditions and other model inputs can cause inaccuracies in simulations, which can cause misleading simulation results. In practice field data has been the weakest link limiting the reliability of simulation predictions.[1]
