Plutonic geothermal plays have a heat source in the form of a crystalline rock enriched in heat generating elements or a young, crystallized, but still cooling intrusive igneous body.{{Expansion depth limit exceeded|Moeck2014|A New 'Geothermal Play Type' Catalog: Streamlining Exploration Decision Making}} These plays are located near mountain ranges and can coexist with magmatic play types.
