Line Extension Analysis

From Open Energy Information

When a prospective electric customer requests service for a home or facility that is not currently serviced by the electric grid, the customer usually must pay a distance-based fee for the cost of extending power lines to the home or facility. In many cases, it is cheaper to use an on-site renewable energy system to meet a prospective customer’s electricity needs. Certain states require utilities to provide information regarding renewable energy options when prospective customers request a line extension. [1]
