Solar Atlas (PACA Region - France)

From Open Energy Information

Interactive high-resolution solar atlas mash-up of the PACA Region (France) including irradiation layers (Beam, diffuse, global) as well as temperature, land use, digital elevation model, wind speed and distance to electricity network.

Overview

The atlas of the solar resource in the PACA region is the result of a project conducted by the Centre for Energy and Processes (CEP), joint research laboratory MINES ParisTech / ARMINES. The project, labeled by the cluster CAPENERGIES, was initially co-funded by the Regional Direction of PACA ADEME under the Framework Agreement between State and Region-ADEME 2007-2013 and by the Council of Alpes Maritimes and further enhanced with support from the FP7 funded project ENDORSE and the GEOSS AIP-5 pilot project.

The region Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur has tremendous potential for renewable energy from solar. The atlas of the solar potential of the latter is a set of maps at 200 m resolution for fine and precise characterization of solar radiation into monthly amounts, according to its global components, direct and diffuse.

This atlas aims to serve as a regional benchmark for evaluating the potential pathways of photovoltaic (PV), heat and thermodynamics of solar radiation. The various public and private domain can use this atlas to identify implantation sites of production systems using solar energy, in an objective and quantitative, of the size according to the intended application or to evaluate , reliably, financial performance or environmental benefits.

The high spatial resolution of the atlas is quite suited to the needs of professional installers who are market oriented individuals for the development of solar energy (solar water heater individual or collective system individual or combined solar photovoltaic).

Project Description

The atlas of the solar resource in the PACA region is a set of maps at 200 m resolution for the detailed characterization of solar radiation into monthly amounts, according to the global components, direct and diffuse. Based on data of solar radiation HelioClim (sold through the site www.soda-is.com ) and calibrated by time series of in-situ measurements pyranométriques, this atlas is intended to serve as a reference for the regional solar potential also Photovoltaic well as thermodynamics. The various public and private actors in the field of solar energy can then be used in this atlas to determine in a rational and quantitative implantation sites of production systems for solar energy, or the size of assess, reliably, cost-effectiveness.
