Louisiana Plug and Abandon Well License (20-LA-a)

In Louisiana, a developer who wishes to plug and abandon a well shall submit a plan to the Commissioner of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources.



Plug and Abandon Well License Process


20-LA-a.1- Plug and Abandon Well Plan

A developer must submit a plan detailing the method and procedure for the closure of the well to the Commissioner of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources. La. Admin. Code tit.. 43 Pt XVII § 109(D)(4) The plan must comply with La. Admin. Code tit. 43 Pt XVII, § 103(E).

20-LA-a.2 to 20-LA-a.3- Review Plan for Completeness

The Commissioner of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources will review the plan for technical and administrative completeness. La. Admin. Code tit. 43 Pt XVII § 109(D)(4)

20-LA-a.4 to 20-LA-a.5- Review Plan for Approval

The Commissioner shall approve the plan or require the applicant to revise it. La. Admin. Code tit. 43, Pt XVII, § 109(D)(4).

20-LA-a.6-Plug and Abandon Well License

The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources may issue a license upon review of the license plan.

20-LA-a.7-Appeal (Optional)

A developer may appeal if the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources denies a Plug and Abandon Well License.
