Footprinter™
Overview
Best Foot Forward's Footprinter™ is a web-based tool designed to develop a baseline greenhouse gas emissions inventory baseline and track emissions annually thereafter. The tool is compatible with ISO 14064-1, the World Resources Institute at World Business Council for Sustainable Development's Greenhouse Gas Protocol, and DEFRA reporting guidelines. Depending on the edition, Footprinter™ calculates emissions from scope 1 (including stationary and mobile combustion), scope 2 (including utility purchases), and scope 3 (including employee business travel and commuting and supply chain) sources.
Inputs and Outputs
Inputs include: To calculate GHG emissions, Footprinter™ requires entry of information about emissions sources (e.g., transportation mode, electricity data source); and type and quantity of fuel consumed in emissions sources during the reporting year. The tool provides some default (primarily UK-based) emissions factors but can be customized by the user with more specific emission factors.
Outputs include:
Total GHG emissions (in metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent). The tool provides the ability to view emissions by source category and scope. The free standard edition produces a pdf report providing required information for DEFRA reporting.
Highlights
The Footprinter™ offers several templates for different industries, including a Local Government model covering offices, purchased services and construction activities. The tool can be used to calculate and roll up emissions from several different entities.
Footprinter™ also offers benchmarking capabilities to track normalized GHG emissions. Additional features, templates, and levels of customization are available at in the editions of Footprinter™ for purchase.
Notes
The Footprinter™ tool is available in several editions, priced at different levels. The base package is free and aligns with the UK Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). The other editions for purchases can be tailored by taking the platform and building the set of emissions factors for a specific location (utilities specific). A few US clients and can do multi-national applications.
