The UnPlug Stuff app tells you how much energy your home is wasting when idling.



Overview

UnPlug Stuff uses a month's worth of uploaded hourly electricity data to determine your home's Idle Load. After getting your Idle Load check out the hints on how to reduce it. Then come back in a couple of weeks to see if it's gone down.

Idle Load

All homes are using electricity even when electronic devices and appliances are turned off. For example, a plasma TV in active standby mode can draw over 350W according to CNET. Add all those loads up and you have your idle load.

UnPlug Stuff

There are some easy and inexpensive ways to reduce your home's idle load. The easiest way is to unplug them. For electronics you use regularly, smart power strips and socket timers are the easiest way to really turn them off.
