REDi Island
Renewable Energy Discovery (REDi) Island
NREL offers an educational virtual world powered entirely by renewable energy to show applications for marine energy and hydropower technologies.
Imagine a world where rivers, tides, and waves help power our communities, monitor our environment, and provide clean drinking water. Or better yet, explore that world through the Renewable Energy Discovery (REDi) Island web-based application.
What Is REDi Island?
REDi Island's virtual, renewable-energy-powered world is home to more than a dozen water power waystations. If you're curious about climate change, clean energy, or the vast power flowing in the world's rivers and oceans, then REDi Island is for you.
Created by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the REDi Island initiative is fully funded by the U.S Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's Water Power Technologies Office and developed by IKM 3D's three-dimensional visualization and software development specialists.
Engaging with REDi Island
We are calling on educators, students, water power industry members, and the general public to join us in amplifying REDi Island! Together, we can create a ripple effect of knowledge and make a lasting impact on the next-generation workforce and our clean energy future.
To make it easy to spread the word about REDi Island, NREL provides downloadable media and other resources. The media can be used in presentations, on social media, in classrooms, and more.
