Exploration Activity: Flow Test At Dixie Valley Geothermal Area (Desormier, 1987)

Exploration Activity Details
Location Dixie Valley Geothermal Area
Exploration Technique Flow Test
Activity Date 1986 - 1986
Usefulness useful
DOE-funding Unknown

Exploration Basis
This six well flow test was done because there was a need to stress the reservoir and there was a backlog of untested new and reworked wells.

Notes
A flow test using six wells at one time was conducted in 1986. The pressures in eight surrounding wells were monitored. The flow duration lasted between 40 - 74 days and a maximum rate of 5.9 million pounds/hour was reached. Each of the flowing wells were surveyed for downhole pressure, temperature, and productivity. The flow test results showed that the six wells have the ability to produce 4.5 million pounds/hour, which was sufficient for the planned 62 MW power plant that was under construction at the time.
