Equipment Requirements	Appliances must be on the U.S. Department of Energy's list of "pre-screened" appliances and be certified to the Energy Commission as meeting California's Title 20 Appliance Efficiency Regulations as required by state law. HVAC equipment must meet minimum efficiency levels stated on website.

Summary

Note: Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is providing a total of $300 million to U.S. states, U.S. territories and the District of Columbia to establish rebate programs for new energy-efficient appliances that replace existing appliances in homes. Each state and territory has designed its own program. Rebates will be available until the state or territory program's funding is exhausted. Be sure to confirm that rebate funds are still available in your state or territory before making purchasing decisions.

California is providing rebates to California residents who purchase qualifying energy efficient refrigerators, room air conditioners and clothes washers on and after April 22, 2010 until funds are depleted. California expanded the program on July 29, 2010 to include rebates for dishwashers, freezers and HVAC systems. To qualify for a rebate, the new appliance must be replacing an older, less efficient appliance. Participants must recycle their existing appliance through a California Certified Recycler. Recycling services may also be provided by Platinum retailers, utility-buy back programs, and some city or county governments. Participants must obtain and submit to the program administrator a signed proof of recycling form along with the rebate application form, a copy of the sales receipt for the purchased appliance, a copy of their most recent utility bill dated 60 days or less (to prove residency), and the original, bright yellow EnergyGuide label from the purchased appliance.
