Summary
Note: Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is providing a total of $300 million to U.S. states, U.S. territories and the District of Columbia to establish rebate programs for new energy-efficient appliances that replace existing appliances in homes. Each state and territory has designed its own program. Rebates will be available until the state or territory program's funding is exhausted. Be sure to confirm that rebate funds are still available in your state or territory before making purchasing decisions.
Beginning on April 19, 2010, Alabama's Residential Energy-Efficient Appliance Rebate Program is offering rebates for select Energy Star appliances installed in households in Alabama. This program is administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs. These rebates are available for Energy Star refrigerators, freezers, clothes washers, dishwashers, and room air conditioners. These appliances must replace an existing appliance. Rebates can be reserved prior to purchasing an appliance. After purchasing the eligible Energy Star appliances, individuals must apply and/or send in supporting documentation for the rebate within 15 days. Equipment purchased online is not eligible to receive rebates. Beginning April 19, 2010, residents can reserve rebates using the Alabama Energy Efficient Rebate Program web site or by calling 1-877-856-6645. Rebates will be awarded in the form of a prepaid Visa card. The rebates will be offered from April 19, 2010 to May 9, 2010, unless funding is exhausted prior to that date. If additional funding remains, there may be a second round of rebate funding available in October 2010.
