From Open Energy Information

The Ohio Department of Transportation is responsible for protecting and regulating the use of Ohio public roads and highways. ODOT must maintain the conditions of the roads through preventative care as well as repair. ODOT also issues permits for non-typical highway use, such as oversize vehicles, hazardous material transportation, and construction within the highway right-of-way. ODOT also manages the state's public transportation system.
