TEAMER Description | For the past 25 years, the OLCF has been a global leader in high-performance parallel computing and the development of computational applications and tools for scientific research. Each year, the facility provides systems 10 to 100 times more powerful than most computers available for research to international teams of scientists who make breakthroughs in biology, chemistry, materials science, cosmology, industrial modeling, and more. More than a dozen companies, from innovative small businesses to Fortune 500 giants, use OLCF resources each year to find new ways to get an edge on the competition. The Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) hosts three petascale computing facilities: the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF), managed for DOE; the National Institute for Computational Sciences (NICS), operated for the National Science Foundation (NSF); and the National Climate-Computing Research Center (NCRC), formed as collaboration between ORNL and the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to explore a variety of research topics in climate sciences. Each facility has an experienced operational and engineering staff comprised of groups in high-performance computing (HPC) operations, technology integration, user services, scientific computing, advanced data and workflows, and application performance tools. Front-line computer facility staff provide 24×7 operation of the centers and immediate problem resolution. Capabilities include: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Modeling, Fluid-structure interaction modeling, Moording dynamics simulation, Smooth particle hydrodynamics, Turbine hydrodynamics, Environmental modeling |
