Abstract
Reliability standards are enforceable in all interconnected jurisdictions in North America: the continental United States; the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan; and the Mexican state of Baja California Norte.
Section 215 of the Federal Power Act requires the Electric Reliability Organization (ERO) to develop mandatory and enforceable reliability standards, which are subject to FERC review and approval. FERC-approved reliability standards become mandatory and enforceable in the U.S. on a date established in the Orders approving the standards.
