Exploration Basis
The goal of this seismic monitoring study was to obtain seismic data during power plant construction, testing, production, and injection. The data will be used to identify and differentiate natural seismic events from events related to testing and production. The data may also be useful for determining fluid flow in the subsurface and locating potential future drilling targets. Setup of seismic stations and monitoring of data is being conducted by Boise State University geophysics field camp students and faculty.
Notes
An array of 11 passive seismic stations were set up around Neal Hot Springs to monitor seismic activity. Each station has a synchronized GPS clock, a 3-way seismic sensor, a data acquisition system that records information onto flash drives, a solar panel and battery, and a fence to keep cows out.
