Summary
Rhode Island's governor announced in March 2004 that the state will purchase 1,650 megawatt-hours (MWh) per year of renewable-energy certificates (RECs), corresponding to 100% of the annual energy consumption of the Rhode Island State House. The state's five-year purchase commitment will begin in the first quarter of 2005. The incremental cost of green power for the State House will be covered by the Rhode Island Renewable Energy Fund.
