Event:FOSWEC Digital Twin: A Virtual Real-Time Model of As-Built Wave Energy Hardware
FOSWEC Digital Twin: A Virtual Real-Time Model of As-Built Wave Energy Hardware: 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. MT on 2021/12/17
Join Sandia National Laboratories’ (Sandia) Water Power program as it hosts, “FOSWEC Digital Twin: A Virtual Real-Time Model of As-Built Wave Energy Hardware,” on Dec. 17, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. MT. The Floating Oscillating Surge Wave Energy Converter (FOSWEC) device was tested at Oregon State University’s Directional Wave Basin in 2020. Moving forward, the FOSWEC will openly be accessible for researcher usage within their own wave tank testing projects. To facilitate future wave tank testing with the FOSWEC, Sandia has partnered with Evergreen Innovations and Oregon State University to develop a “digital twin” model that captures the dynamics of the FOSWEC and the sensor/actuator interface of the hardware. By prototyping their control systems and commands with the FOSWEC digital twin, researchers can ensure smooth execution of the actual FOSWEC device. Additionally, researchers may use the FOSWEC digital twin as they would any other numerical model of a wave energy converter (e.g., for control design, performance assessment, etc.).
