Summary:
Planned Tasks: Inspection of chiller and Kloehn pump maintenance.
· Caged down at 7:00 am.
· A quick inspection of the overall condition of the site and equipment was done before proceeding to do planned tasks.
· The Kloehn pump was shut off. The old and leaky syringe was removed and replaced with a new one. After that, the pump was turned back on.
· The flow rate from the outlet tube was then measured using a graduated cylinder and a cellphone timer. The flow rate was measured twice. The initial measurement after replacing the pump syringe was 85 mL/min. The second measurement read at 80 mL/min. and was taken an hour after the initial measurement. The normal flow rate is usually at 250 mL/min. A blockage inside the inlet tube was suspected. Further troubleshooting required on the next underground trip.
· Chiller was working during the initial inspection and had an outlet temperature of 7.9 °C. It started malfunctioning around 9:00 am. It was reset twice but kept malfunctioning and was shut off at the end of the shift. Further maintenance required tomorrow.
· Troubleshooting of Kloehn pump and Chiller was coordinated with Hunter Knox and Christopher Strickland.
· Caged up at 11:45 am.
