EGS Collab Daily Shift Report

SURF Personnel: George Vandine

Location(s): 4100 Level: SIGMA-V Alcove – Ross Shaft & 4850 West Drift

Summary:

4100 L Planned Tasks: 4th Guide Walk (for Carlo), Vertical Well Pressure Measurement, Vertical Well Water Leak Maintenance.

·      We caged down at 7:00 am to the 4100 L and proceeded to do the guide walk.

·      We used the motor to head down the entrance of the Alcove. There we discussed the hazards, mitigations, egress routes, emergency communications, scenarios, and first-aid equipment before moving on down to the crossover and coming back to the Alcove.

·      We then took a pressure reading of the vertical well (TV4100) around 8:50 am, which read at 9.3 psi.

·      The vertical well casing was filled with water which we emptied using a plastic cup and a syringe. We wiped the inside dry and started assessing where the water leak was coming from. We assumed that the leak was coming from the well cap.

·      We decided to tighten the cap to stop the leak but was unsuccessful. There was a minor increased with the water leak afterwards. This information was then communicated with Paul Schwering and plans were discussed on how to fix the water leak.

·      We caged down to the 4850 L at 11:40 am.

4850 West Drift Planned Tasks: Troubleshooting Data Acquisition Laptop and Hard Drives Swap.

·      We did a quick inspection on the overall condition of the site when we arrived.

·      We then proceeded to inspect the Laptop which was turned off when we got there. The Laptop was turned back on. We coordinated this information with Todd Wood and he proceeded to do a remote reboot of the Laptop. The Laptop was operational afterwards.

·      We then started to do the Hard drives swap for the Workstation. The tarp covering the hard drives was partially removed to prevent water drips from overhead pipe condensation from harming the electronics. Hard drives 147, 149-157 was unplugged from the system. New hard drives were labeled (160-169) and were then consecutively plugged-in to replace the old ones. The tarp was replaced over the hard drives afterward. The old hard drives were transferred back to their original boxes and was brought up to the surface with us for shipping.

·      We caged up at 3:00 pm.
