Initiatives

  • California EcoRestore: This program aims to restore at least 30,000 acres of land that is categorized as “critical” near Sacramento in the next four years.
  • Voluntary Watershed Agreements: This program aims to balance the “competing needs” of the delta near Sacramento by improving water quality standards.
  • California Water Action Plan: This plan set five-year goals to achieve “sustainable water management.” The 2016 update reveals project progress since 2014.
  • Salton Sea Management Program: This program is monitoring the, “Sea’s natural, agricultural, and municipal water inflows” to see how provide as much habitats as possible to fish and bird species. This program also aims, “to protect regional health, ecological wealth, and a stable water supply” throughout California. Transparency is important in this program to gain public support.
  • California Water Fix: “Solving California’s water problems through water security, climate change adaptation, environmental protection and addressing seismicity issues and reinforcement.”
  • Independent Science Study on Well Stimulation: Through the Renewal Plan, “the Department of Conservation provides services and information that promote environmental health, economic vitality, informed land-use decisions and sound management of our state's natural resources.”
