Renewable Energy

From Open Energy Information

Renewable Energy is energy obtained from sources which are practically inexhaustible.[1] Prominent examples include solar energy, wind energy, and geothermal energy. The table below lists some of the conversion technologies that are used to harness the energy from these resources[2] .

Renewable Resource Energy Conversion Technology
Biomass, solid fuels Combustion (direct-fired, cofiring with coal); Gasification/Pyrolysis
Biomass, gas and liquid fuels Fuel Cells
Geothermal Dry steam electric; Flash electric; Binary cycle electric; Direct use; Geothermal heat pumps
Solar Photovoltaics (PV); Concentrating solar thermal electric (parabolic trough, parabolic trough, power tower); Thermal water heating; Absorption chilling
Water, Hydro Hydroelectric turbines; Pumped hydro storage
Water, Ocean Wave energy devices; Tidal/current energy turbines; Thermal energy conversion
Wind Wind turbines
