Exploration Activity: Step-out Well At Blue Mountain Geothermal Area (Melosh, Et Al., 2008)
|Exploration Activity Details|
|Location||Blue Mountain Geothermal Area|
|Exploration Technique||Step-out Well|
|Activity Date||2008 - 2008|
The stepout well was drilled 1.2 km to the west of the main well field in order to test permeability for a potential injection well and to explore for deep up flow in the range front fault to the west.
A stepout-deepening well (58-15) was drilled 1.2 km west of the main geothermal well field at Blue Mountain. When the well reached 396 m there was a massive loss of circulation revealing a shallow injection target. A deeper target was desired though, so the well was cemented behind the casing in order to drill to a deeper target. The deeper target was successfully reached at 1706 m and has become a highly productive well that is linked to the main reservoir.
