Incentive/Summary In 1999, former New Jersey Governor James …
In 1999, former New Jersey Governor James McGreevey established a green power procurement goal of at least 10% for state agencies. Through April 2006, New Jersey state agencies obtained green power through a contract with Pepco Energy, which supplied wind power certified by Green-e. The state is currently purchasing 99% of its green power from a mix of wind power, hydropower, and biomass, and 1% of its power from photovoltaics. The aggregated green power supplies 180 New Jersey accounts, including departments and agencies within the state government, 11 state universities, New Jersey Transit, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, the New Jersey Highway Authority, the Hackensack Meadowlands Development Commission, the Delaware River Port Authority, the New Jersey Water Supply Authority, South Jersey Transportation Authority, and Palisades Interstate Park Commission. A November 2003 case study by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, titled ''[http://www.state.nj.us/dep/dsr/bscit/GreenPower.pdf Renewable Energy: New Jersey's Green Power Purchasing Program]'', describes the program in greater detail.
