Energy Development Index (EDI)
Abstract The Energy Development Index (EDI) measures the progress in transitioning to reliable, clean and efficient fuels and energy services - like electricity and modern cooking appliances - at the household and community levels for each of 80 countries.  +

The enhanced EDI is a multi-dimensional indicator that tracks energy development country-by-country. At the household level, it focuses on two key dimensions: access to electricity and access to clean cooking facilities. When looking at community level access, it considers modern energy use for public services (e.g. schools, water and sanitation, etc.) and energy for productive use, which deals with modern energy use as part of economic activity.

The values for the variables used for measuring each indicator. The variables are: # Access to clean cooking facilities: % share of modern energy use in total final consumption by residential sector; # Access to electricity: % of population that has access to electricity, per capita electricity consumption; # Access to energy for public services: per-capita public services electricity consumption; and, # Access to energy for productive use: share of economic activities in the total final consumption.
