Exploration Activity: Reflection Survey At Dixie Valley Geothermal Area (Blackwell, Et Al., 2003)
|Exploration Activity Details|
|Location||Dixie Valley Geothermal Area|
|Exploration Technique||Reflection Survey|
|Activity Date||1975 - 1985|
|Usefulness||could be useful with more improvements|
Many seismic surveys were conducted during the first exploration activities for geothermal energy in Dixie Valley.
Southerland Royalty and Sun corporations conducted many seismic reflection profiles during the original push for geothermal exploration in the late 1970's and early 1980's. Much of Southerland Royalty's seismic data was made public in the 1980's. The reflection profiles were difficult to interpret due to very steep fault dips and complex 3D geometry; however this seismic reflection data played a role in siting some of the first drilling targets. somewhere around 10-20 profiles were made running parallel and perpendicular to the range front fault.
