New Mexico Geothermal Drilling & Well Development(5-NM)
Developers must obtain approval from the Oil Conservation Division of the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department prior to commencement of drilling operations in New Mexico. Any proposed well for geothermal production, observation, or thermal gradient, or for injection or disposal purposes requires a Permit to Drill. NMAC 220.127.116.11. The permitting process is detailed and requires submittal of three separate documents and a plugging bond with the Application for Permit to Drill. NMAC 19.14.21.
