In The News[edit]

On June 10th, 2010, Megtec Systems announced it planned to build the world's largest facility for capturing methane coming out of coal mines in Chongqing, China. The methane capturing system will include fitting six Vocsidizer units at the Datong coal mine. These vocsidizers are capable of processing 375,000 normal cubic meters of air methane per hour. Megtec says their system can eliminate 97% of the methane exhaust, and can utilize this as fuel for generating electricity[2].

Megtec President Mohit Uberoi says "This project is an example of technology-based proven solutions for control of greenhouse gas emissions and will set the benchmark for future projects in China and other regions of the world." It is an important project in China, where the country receives 70% of its energy from coal. Methane released from these coal plants is extremely harmful, and is said to be 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide at trapping heat. China grew by 30.5% in its output of raw coal. These methane trapping systems will be extremely important in the coming years, both in China and other places where coal is still a primary source of energy like the United States.[2]
