DSG-ST Ocean is a low-power underwater acoustic recorder that records to high capacity SD memory cards. The DSG-ST uses lossless X3 data compression to increase recording duration three-fold.

Loggerhead DSG-ST Ocean Acoustic Datalogger: User Experience Report
Application: Loggerhead DSG with HTI96-min hydrophone. Stationary measurements at potential MEC site (currents > 3 m/s) and on drifters in waves and estuarties. Deployments on moorings and near-bed tripods for 1 week – 6 months. Duty cycles 1-100% (memory limited in the past due to smaller SD cards) with continuous sampling at 80 kHz.
Strengths: The device was highly configurable, reliable, and easy to work with. With modern SD memory the duty cycle is largely limited by battery capacity. Customer service was fantastic.
Weaknesses: Although newer versions are different, older models do not provide a way of ensuring the device is operating once the housing has been closed. In previous models it was not possible to synchronize the clock so timestamps were only good to within a couple of seconds.
Ease of Use: The software and firmware are easy to use and the manual is good.
User Recommendations: The continuous sampling rate was limited to 80 kHz, which was more than sufficient for my applications but may not be for others. Numerous changes have been made to the firmware etc since I last worked with the instrument. Some of the shortcomings may have since been addressed with these changes (syncing clock). For example, external LEDs on the hydrophone now indicate power to the instrument without opening the pressure housing.
