Iowa Department of Transportation
The Iowa Department of Transportation manages the state owned roads and highways within the state. It is also responsible for the vehicles that use these roads, and regulates what is appropriate use. The department issues Iowa state driver's licenses as well as other specialty driving permits. It manages road conditions and is tasked with keeping state roads in working order. It also manages the right-of-ways near state roads and highways, and designates what is and what isn't allowed in those right of ways. The department also manages the state-funded public transportation organization. The department also regulates other forms of transportation, including rail lines and aviation.
