Abstract
The Indian Act, which was enacted in 1876, is the primary document which defines how the the Government of Canada interacts with First Nation Bands. The Indian Act deals with a wide range of topics including indigenous status, the administration of reserve land and resources as well as Band administration. Inuit and Métis are not governed by this law.
