Exploration Activity: Core Holes At Kilauea East Rift Geothermal Area (Bargar, Et Al., 1995)
|Exploration Activity Details|
|Location||Kilauea East Rift Geothermal Area|
|Exploration Technique||Core Holes|
|Activity Date||1989 - 1991|
This study was conducted to provide data for volcanic research, evaluate commercial geothermal potential, and for long tem monitoring.
Three scientific observation holes were drilled in the Lower East Rift Zone for the purpose of collecting core samples for volcanic research, evaluating commercial geothermal potential, and for long term monitoring. The holes were drilled by the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute of the University of Hawaii at Manoa. About 4559 m of core was successfully recovered from the SOH drill holes.
