This study was conducted as a reanalysis of previously obtained aeromagnetic data in order to produce a more detailed aeromagnetic map of the region.
The USGS produced a more detailed aeromagnetic map of the KERZ in 1986. The map was prepared using data collected in 1966 and 1978. The map shows steep linear gradients associated with dipolar anomalies along the southern edge of the rift zone. The map also shows a major discontinuity in anomalies in the location of a NW trending fault cutting across the KERZ. The anomalies are interpreted to be a complex of dikes that have higher magnetic susceptibility compared to the parent rocks. The data was reanalyzed in 1993 by Hildenbrand et al. (1993). The reanalyzed model showed a narrow magnetic low zone running parallel with a wide magnetic high zone. The magnetic low zone was interpreted as hydrothermally altered rocks.
