Siting and permitting policies can facilitate the installation of clean energy systems by specifying the conditions and fees involved in project development. Some local governments have adopted simplified or expedited permitting standards for wind and/or solar projects. “Top-of-the-stack” or fast-track permitting saves system owners and project developers time and money. Some states have established maximum fees that local governments may charge for a permit for a solar or wind energy system. In addition, some states have developed (or have supported the development of) model wind ordinances for use by local governments. [1]
