Silica Deposition:
The formation of silica minerals due to silica precipitating out of solution. Geothermal fluids are often silica rich and as the temperature of the fluids cool when they reach the surface silica precipitates out of the solution.

Silica deposition is the white buildup on the rocks. Silica deposition often causes scaling in geothermal pipelines and clogs up pore space in formations causing problems with reinjection, or in the case of the Blue Lagoon in Iceland, silica deposition prevented water from seeping into the ground causing the formation of beautiful pools on the surface.
