Bulk Transmission Development in Alabama

The Alabama electric grid is part of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation’s (NERC) Eastern Interconnection. In Alabama, SERC Reliability Corporation is the regional entity, under NERC, charged with developing reliability standards and monitoring compliance for all owners, operators, and users of the bulk electric system. Alabama has three balancing authorities: Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), Southern Company Services, Inc. (Southern Co.) and Power South Energy Coop (Power South). Southern Co. is the primary balancing authority serving central and southern Alabama.
