The LEDS GP Sub-National Integration of LEDS Working Group (SNI-LEDS WG) was created at the second LEDS GP annual event in early 2013 to support coordinated and mutually reinforcing approaches for national and subnational LEDS planning and implementation. The SNI-LEDS WG supports learning on this subject and facilitates collaboration between national and subnational governments supporting low emission, climate resilient development. The working group offers a number of services and resources to the LEDS community including peer learning and exchange, case studies, best practices, webinars, among others.

Planned Activities for 2013

Mapping of Current and Planned Activities and Resources

The SNI-LEDS WG will compile a portfolio of informational and technical resources to understand the scope of current and planned work in this area and to provide technical support to LEDS teams on integrated national-sub-national approaches and measures. The results of this inventory of resources will inform and guide capacity building activities.

Capacity Building Trainings

The SNI-LEDS WG will build capacity of LEDS teams on SNI issues through sessions held at regional and global workshops, webinars, and pilot support to countries. Experiences from these pilot activities will be shared through workshop sessions and webinars and case studies and will inform future work. Capacity building activities will include:

  • Technical sessions at regional and global LEDS GP events: The SNI-LEDS WG will work with the regional platforms to identify interests, plan, and execute sessions on SNI issues for the regional workshop and global LEDS GP workshops.
  • Webinars: The SNI-LEDS WG will convene webinars on SNI topics to promote broad peer learning and information exchange on specific priority issues defined by the WG and with input from practitioners.
  • Pilot projects: The SNI-LEDS WG proposes to conduct pilot projects to team with countries in supporting approaches to improve coordinated LEDS development and implementation across sub-national and national levels. The pilots could focus on one country program or engage with multiple countries in a region. Results from the pilots will be presented in short case study reports and disseminated through sessions at LEDS GP workshops, webinars, and other forums.
  • SN GHG Accounting Training: The SNI-LEDS WG will develop a training program on GHG inventories and accounting for sub-national officials and for linking national and sub-national inventories. This could build on training resources and activities developed and offered by GHGMI and others.
