Workshop on Accessing Finance for Green Growth and LEDS

Hanoi, Vietnam 12-14 March 2014

The Asia LEDS Partnership (ALP) is organizing the Southeast Asia Climate Finance Workshop during March 12-14, 2014 in Hanoi, Vietnam. The event will be hosted by the Vietnam Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI), with support from ALP members including CDKN, SWITCH-Asia Network Facility, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), USAID, and the World Bank. This event will target government officials from planning and finance ministries from Southeast Asian countries and from sub-national planning authorities, as well as representatives from the financial sector (e.g., state and private banks) and entrepreneurs. The proposed theme, “Accessing Finance for Green Growth and LEDS,” reflects ALP members’ interest in addressing common challenges and improving capacity to access finance to accelerate efforts to scale up LEDS implementation.

Technical content of this two-day event will support learning and exchange on key challenges facing policymakers and implementers, and improve understanding of how to use climate finance to leverage resources to further national low carbon and green growth strategies and their implementation.

Day 1 begins with opening remarks and presentations to offer a foundation for discussions. The remainder of the day will be structured to answer fundamental questions related to finance for green growth that have been raised by ALP members, such as how to assess finance needs and identify available sources of finance. The day will end with detailed presentations on four funds, by fund representatives. Day 2 begins with interactive table discussions between country participants, experts, and fund representatives. Then, sessions will focus on building capacity and preparing participants for accessing finance for low carbon green growth by taking a look at the design of existing national climate and green growth related funds and options for leveraging private sector financing. The afternoon sessions will include hands-on exercises on climate finance monitoring and evaluation, and end with identification of follow up actions. Day 3 will include two side events (details will be available soon). This event offers a venue to expand and strengthen the network of green growth and LEDS practitioners in Asia, and an opportunity for participants to collaborate and strengthen climate finance readiness and capacity to achieve sustainable, low-emission development in the sub-region.

The agenda and additional details will be available shortly. If you are interested in participating in the event, or contributing, please email the Asia LEDS Partnership Secretariat at: Secretariat@asialeds.org.
