Exploration Activity: Exploratory Well At North Brawley Geothermal Area (Matlick & Jayne, 2008)
|Exploration Activity Details|
|Location||North Brawley Geothermal Area|
|Exploration Technique||Exploratory Well|
|Activity Date||1975 - 1980|
Deep exploratory wells were drilled after a phase of thermal gradient wells helped narrow down the best drilling targets. This activity was done for initial exploration and assessment of the North Brawley Geothermal Area.
In 1975 Union Oil Company began drilling deep exploration wells, they drilled 14 in total. Chevron also drilled two deep wells on the western side of the known geothermal area. These drilling activities led to the construction of a 10 MW experimental power plant that was put online in 1980.
