Daily Shift Report

Location(s):  4850 Level - EGS Collab SIGMA-V (Collab)

 

Summary of Work:

Well/fracture hydraulic connectivity tests.

Purpose: Finding hydraulically-connected natural fractures intersected by the Collab wells.

 

Science Hours (total) on Site:

Surface: 3  hrs

Underground: 30  hrs

 

Irregularities:

       Air-lifting equipment shipment still delayed.

       Well caps do not form tight seals at top of casing; two caps do not fit casing due to warped casing.

 

Actions:

       Brought down DTS equipment and retrieved well caps.

       Cleaned up site/equipment from yesterday’s activities to make room for today.

       Filled all eight  wells with city water, recorded baseline observations.

       Sequentially flowed water one well at a time, observed effect on other wells (see next section).

       Deliberated about how to identify fracture depths given current equipment constraints.

       Tested Craig U’s concept of using a 3” PVC pipes as water bailing unit, good option.

       Took early (4pm) cage up in order to make hardware store runs.

 

Observations and interpretations from city water injection into:

       E1-I - flow rate increase of ~215 mL/min @ E1-PDT -> E1-I & E1-PDT connected via fracture(s).

       E1-OT - flow rate increase of ~2.5 L/min @ E1-P -> E1-OT & E1-P connected (already known).

       E1-P & PDT - casing warped, could not emplace well caps.

       E1-OB, PST, PSB, PDB - no discernable changes in fluid flow -> no connectivity to other wells.
